Granada, April 2, 2024 – On the occasion of the International Day for Monuments and Sites, the inauguration of the temporary exhibition ‘The Lost Paradise’ by renowned artist Javier Gonzalez Alcantud is announced. The event will take place on Thursday, April 18th at 7:30 pm at Casa Zafra, located in the emblematic Albaicín neighborhood of Granada.
The exhibition, organized by the Granada City Council, will remain open from April 18th to May 26th, offering the public the opportunity to immerse themselves in the work of this artist. Javier Gonzalez Alcantud presents a collection that invites reflection on the relationship between art, history, and the human experience.
The exhibition discourse is articulated in two emblematic and clearly defined spaces: The Arab House of Zafra and the Carmen-Museum Max Moreau. The Zafra House, an architectural gem from the Nasrid period, serves as the perfect backdrop for this exhibition, which explores decay and romanticism through an intertwined plastic and literary narrative. Meanwhile, the Carmen-Museum Max Moreau offers a unique perspective on the city and its history, providing a space for dialogue between artists and spectators.
Under the title ‘The Lost Paradise’, the exhibition invites you to delve into a world of dreams and transgressions, where each work is a reflection of the artist’s personal vision. From engravings to watercolors, the exhibition presents a carefully selected selection of works spanning several decades of Gonzalez Alcantud’s career. Through his work, the artist transports the visitor to an idealized yet deeply real Granada, a city that pulsates amid turbulent and uncertain times.
Javier Gonzalez Alcantud, born in the Albaicín and trained with the best art professionals in Europe, is acclaimed by both the public and critics alike. His work, distributed in numerous public and private collections worldwide, stands out for its renewed contemporary look at decadence and romanticism. Known as “the wizard of the pencil” and “the artist of lost paradises,” Gonzalez Alcantud continues to challenge the boundaries of art and society with his visual activism.
The Zafra House, one of the most relevant examples of Nasrid architecture in Granada, offers the perfect setting for this celebration of art and history. Built in the 14th century and declared a World Heritage Site in 1994, this house has witnessed centuries of history and culture and now once again hosts the creativity and innovation of a contemporary artist.
Following the inauguration of the exhibition, attendees will have the opportunity to enjoy a concert by the young pianist with physical and visual disabilities, Pepe García Ruiz, who will put the finishing touch to this cultural evening.
