The La Zubia City Council has called for residents’ cooperation to identify the individuals responsible for five intentional fires that have occurred in the town over the past week. According to local witnesses, the culprits are believed to be a group of children around 15 years old, who allegedly started the two most recent fires last night on Matadero Street.
One of the fires destroyed a centuries-old cypress tree, while the other affected a tree on private property. The swift response of the firefighters prevented the flames from spreading, but Mayor Puri López warned that the situation could have been very serious, as the fires took place near homes and vehicles.
The wave of fires began on August 8th with two blazes on Monte Street and in the Vega area, where quick action by firefighters, Infoca, and the local police averted more significant damage. The mayor strongly condemned these acts of vandalism and urged the community to provide any information that could help identify those responsible.
Residents of La Zubia have suggested increasing security in the area, with more police patrols and surveillance cameras, to prevent further incidents.
