Semana Santa La Herradura
Every year, Holy Week fills the streets of La Herradura with tradition and devotion, as the town comes together to relive the mystery of Christ’s Passion, Death, and Resurrection.
The celebrations begin on Friday of Sorrows with Holy Mass, honoring those who have passed away during the year, followed by a Solemn Hand-Kissing Ceremony dedicated to the Blessed Virgin of Sorrows.
Palm Sunday, also known as Passion Sunday, marks the blessing of the palms and a processional entrance into San José Church, commemorating Jesus’ arrival in Jerusalem. The Blessing of the Palms takes place in San José Square, followed by a penitential procession to the church, where Holy Mass is celebrated.
On Maundy Thursday, a Mass is celebrated in remembrance of the Last Supper. Afterward, the Way of the Cross (Vía Crucis) begins, departing from San José Church and returning to the temple.
Holy Week in La Herradura is a profound experience filled with devotion and emotion, deeply rooted in the people’s faith and reverence for sacred images. Each spring, the Cofradía of La Herradura creates beautiful and memorable scenes for both residents and visitors.
