Semana Santa La Herradura
Holy Week in La Herradura
Every year, Holy Week fills the streets of La Herradura with tradition and devotion, where the people vibrate unanimously, awakening to the mystery of the Passion, Death, and Resurrection of Jesus.
The celebrations begin on Good Friday with Holy Mass, commemorating all those who have died during the year, and continue with a solemn kissing of the hands of the Blessed Virgin of Sorrows.
Palm Sunday, also known as Passion Sunday, is the day on which the palms are blessed and the procession enters the Church of San José, commemorating Jesus’ arrival in Jerusalem. The blessing of the palms takes place in San José Square, followed by a penitential procession to the church where Mass will be celebrated.
On Holy Thursday, a Mass is celebrated in remembrance of the Last Supper. After this Mass, the Stations of the Cross begin, departing from the Church of St. Joseph and returning to the Temple.
Holy Week in La Herradura is a collection of experiences and feelings born from popular devotion to the images. The religiosity of the town means that every spring, the Brotherhood of La Herradura leaves beautiful images for the memories of residents and visitors.
