La Herradura Open Water Swim
The bay of La Herradura will once again take center stage this summer as it hosts one of the most iconic events on the summer calendar: the La Herradura Open Water Swim, part of the 2025 Provincial Open Water Circuit organized by the Granada Provincial Council in collaboration with the Sports Department of the Almuñécar Town Hall, the La Herradura Local Council, and the Amigos de La Herradura Association.
The event, scheduled for Sunday, September 7, will be the second-to-last race in the circuit, which takes participants through various natural settings across the province, including reservoirs and beaches.
There will be two race distances: a 1,500-meter swim for adults and a 500-meter course for children. Activities will begin at 9:30 a.m. with bib collection and will conclude at 1:30 p.m. with the awards ceremony.
The competition will feature seven male and female age categories, starting from age 8: Infant, Junior, Senior, Master 30, Master 40, Master 50, Master 60, and Absolute. A special local category will also be included for swimmers from La Herradura and Almuñécar, with specific prizes.
The logistical and safety arrangements will be supported by the Red Cross and Civil Protection, ensuring medical assistance and the smooth running of the event.
Trophies or medals will be awarded to the top three finishers in each category, as well as to the oldest participant to complete the swim and those entered in the disability category. The top three local finishers in each category will also receive special recognition.
General registration can be completed via the official website: www.travesiasdipgra.com.
Local swimmers must register in person at the La Herradura Local Council Office or at the Francisco Bonet Municipal Stadium in Almuñécar.
The entry fee is 12 euros per race, but free of charge for local participants.
