Jazz en la Costa Festival
2025 PROGRAM: Coming Soon
Organized by the Diputación de Granada and the Almuñécar City Council, Jazz en la Costa is a renowned event in Southern Europe, pioneering the fusion of culture and tourism. It is one of the most respected and internationally awarded jazz festivals and among the few bearing the European Union’s quality seal.
With a stage facing Africa and a historic heritage setting—beneath an ancient Arab fortress and next to Phoenician ruins—the festival benefits from the charm of its proximity to the Alboran Sea and the lush vegetation of the Costa Tropical.
Almuñécar’s mild climate allows for a unique atmosphere in the botanical garden of Parque El Majuelo, the festival’s concert venue. This garden is home to 182 different plant species from tropical regions across the world, including Central and South America, Africa, Madagascar, China, India, Arabia, Japan, the Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, New Guinea, Australia, New Zealand, Melanesia, Micronesia, and Polynesia.
At the Phoenician fish-salting factory, visitors can see remnants of rooms with a labyrinth-like structure, vats where salted fish fillets were stored before being transported in large amphorae for trade across the Mediterranean—particularly to Carthage, Rome, and Corinth. There are also remains of what is believed to have been a grand temple dedicated to the goddess Minerva. Attached to the temple’s southern wall, a channel once carried fresh water from the aqueduct to rinse the fish before salting.
Overlooking the festival’s open-air auditorium, designed by maestro Urrengoechea, stands the San Miguel Castle, shaped by the passage of different civilizations that have defined Almuñécar’s rich history.
Concerts begin at 10:00 PM (Doors open at 9:00 PM).
