The Natural Park of Sierras de Tejeda, Almijara, and Alhama is known for its whitish tones, attributed to the abundant marble in the area. This environment is ideal for the resinous pine, with the sands created from decomposed rock providing a nurturing habitat. The resin extraction from these pines became a vital income source for locals, culminating in the establishment of the Spanish Resin Union factory, which operated until 1975.
Today, the former chapel and school within the factory premises serve as the La Resinera information point. It offers insights into resin extraction and sheds light on other resources that sustained the park’s inhabitants. The site also encourages exploration of the historical legacy, particularly the influence of diverse cultures, notably the Muslim presence. Additionally, dedicated spaces provide visitors with the means to understand the rugged mountain landscape, where numerous exclusive species seek refuge amidst the ridges and ravines.
