Hiking Viewpoints and cliffs in Torrenueva Costa

Torrenueva Costa will become a meeting point for hiking enthusiasts on Sunday, March 22, when it hosts the FADMES 2026 Interprovincial Hiking Meeting, an outdoor event expected to bring together around 150 participants to explore the subtropical landscapes of Granada’s coastline.

The event is organised by the Granada delegation of the Andalusian Federation of Mountain Sports, Climbing and Hiking together with the Halcones Peregrinos Mountain Club, with the aim of promoting healthy outdoor activity and showcasing the natural surroundings of the area.

The day will begin at 08:30 with the reception of participants at the Paulino Salgado Sports Centre, followed by staggered departures for the three planned routes: 09:30 for the long route, 09:45 for the short route and 10:00 for the inclusive route.

The longest route will cover 15.3 kilometres with a medium level of difficulty, taking hikers through the Rambla de Villanueva and areas of subtropical crops, reaching a maximum elevation of 106 metres with a cumulative elevation gain of 228 metres.

The shorter route will cover 11.7 kilometres and has a low level of difficulty, following the PR A-420 trail, making it suitable for those looking for a more relaxed walk.

Meanwhile, the inclusive route, measuring 7 kilometres, has been designed to ensure accessibility and is suitable for wheelchairs. The route will pass several emblematic spots including the Azucenas Viewpoint, Playa del Cañón and the Peñón de Jolúcar, with a minimal elevation gain of 54 metres.

Organisers have also introduced several measures to reduce environmental impact, including the elimination of disposable cups and the use of biodegradable route markers. Refreshment points will be located at the Mirador de las Terrazas and Church Square.

The event will be supported by a safety team including volunteers, Civil Protection and a medicalised ambulance, as well as a communication network to coordinate the organisers along the routes.

The meeting will conclude at around 14:15 at the Cañada Vargas Recreational Area, where participants will enjoy a shared meal and an awards presentation for clubs and hikers.

The activity is open to both federated and non-federated participants, with non-members covered by a one-day activity insurance. Registration is currently open through the platform www.global-tempo.com.

The event forms part of the Eurorando 2026 programme, which will culminate in the major European hiking gathering in the Ore Mountains, on the border between Germany and the Czech Republic.
