Direct flights to Granada
Until just a few years ago Granada airport handled only domestic flights, and most foreign visitors to the South of Spain flew to Malaga. However, the airport has been expanding in recent years, and a number of airlines are now operating direct flights between Granada and other European cities.
Vueling Airlines operates direct, low-fare flights to and from Granada to Barcelona, Pama de Mallorca, Tenerife, Gran Canaria, London/Gatwick, Paris and cheap stop-over flights to other European cities. Air Nostrum operates flights to Madrid and Melilla. Air Europa operates flights to Palma de Mallorca.

Flying via Madrid
If you are flying from outside Spain to the Costa Tropical de Granada we would strongly advise you to fly directly to Granada if at all possible (or Malaga if no direct flights to Granada are available), and avoid connecting flights from Madrid. Madrid airport is notoriously bad at coordinating luggage with flights, and there is a strong chance that your luggage will almost certainly not arrive in Granada or Malaga on the same plane – or even on the same day! – that you arrive. Only consider flying via Madrid if you are travelling without luggage, or if you don’t mind spending a day or two sitting in Granada airport waiting for your bags to catch up with you. If you absolutely cannot avoid taking a flight with a connection at Madrid, at least make sure to label your cases carefully, and carry all essential items in your hand luggage.

Granada Airport (GRX)
Federico García Lorca Granada-Jaén airport is a small airport with a relaxed atmosphere and a very nice restaurant. It is situated ten miles (17 km) outside the city. The airport is accessible from the main A92 motorway. If you are driving from Malaga, follow the N331, then take the A359 which meets the A92 near Loja. There is a large car park (with spaces for over 500 cars) directly outside the terminal building. Parking charges are: up to 30 minutes, free, and approximately €1 per hour thereafter. A 24-hour pass and a monthly pass can also be purchased in the terminal building. The car park is open from 7.30am – 9.30pm.
The airport building has a bar, several restaurants and cafes, shops, a VIP lounge, car hire offices, hotel reservation booths, basic banking facilities, an information desk, and various other services.

Transfers
Passengers travelling onward to other destinations in the Granada region – including skiers with hotel reservations in the Sierra Nevada ski resort, and those with hotel bookings on the coast – can order a transfer from Granada airport.

Car Hire
There are a number of leading car hire companies with offices in the airport building. Payment must be made by credit card. Car hire prices in the South of Spain are among the lowest in Europe. See our Car Hire page for further details.

Buses
There are regular buses from the airport (bus departure point is situated outside the terminal building) to the Gran via de Colon (or, simply, “Colon”) and Palacio de Congresos in the centre of Granada. Tickets cost €3 per person.

Taxis
There is a taxi rank beside the terminal building. Expect to pay around €20 for the ride to the city centre, but it is always a good idea to ask the driver how much it will cost before you get into the car. Taxi fares are very reasonable in Granada, and it is rare for passengers to be overcharged.
