International groups

Almuñécar International Womens Group. The group organises events, trips and social outings.The group has set up a spanish conversation group, organised a Singing Groups, yoga sessions. Members have hosted a range of social events from pool parties to plant swops. They meet twice a month (second and the fourth Saturday of each month) for a coffee morning and to plan activities. Costa Women. Created in 2010, Costa Women is a free community for women living, or moving to Spain. They share information, receive actionable advice and real life tips for your journey to and around Spain. Website. Facebook group.

American International Club. First established in 2008, the American International Club (AIC) is a Nerja-based Ex-Pat Social Club whose members either live in or regularly visit the area, but originally come from various corners of the globe. Los Flamencos sexitanos. This is an association of winter visitors who speak Flemish and Dutch and stay for a short or long period of time in  Almuñécar. In Flanders, the association is affiliated with the FVV (Forum of Flemish Women), and in Andalusia, they are also officially recognized as a non-profit organization. Currently, they have more than 120 members. They celebrate the Waffle and Crepe Festival on Sundays and Christmas tasting of the typical sausages with onion, traditional meal in northern Belgium and other countries. Website. Facebook page.

International Club of Salobreña. The International Club of Salobreña is a vibrant social club, welcoming members from diverse backgrounds and nationalities. With approximately 180 members, both permanent residents and those who move in and out of the region, the club serves as a hub for socializing and community connections. While English is the official language, the membership represents a global spectrum. l‘AFA (Amicale des Francophones d’Almuñécar). Association of French-speakers both residents or visitor with around 200 active members. They meet every Monday in a space provided by the Town Hall. They offer a warm welcome and a variety of activities such as trips, a weekly library, monthly excursions in winter, dance evenings, restaurant meals, and also help you with small practical issues. Deutschsprachige Vereinigung Almuñécar und La Herradura. Association of German speakers in the area with more than 200 members  from many different countries. There are various opportunities for encounters and exchange. Whether playing petanque/boules together, hiking on Mondays, attending the general “meeting,” or enjoying the Almuñecar’ cultural offerings together. Website.

Cultural associations

Cineclub Mediterráneo. The Cineclub Mediterráneo is a non-profit cultural association that began its screenings in 1992, making it one of the longest-running film clubs in Andalusia. It currently has over 170 members and an average attendance of 125 viewers per film. This cineclub has been awarded prestigious prizes, such as the 2013 Asecan Andalusian Film Award for its work in promoting and fostering cinema, and the 2015 ASFAAN award for its trajectory. The Cineclub Mediterráneo offers a monthly program of four films, featuring national and independent productions, and has a video library with 3000 titles. Screenings are held at the Caja Granada Cultural Center on Calle José Felipe Soto 1 bajo A in Motril on Wednesdays and Fridays at 8:00 PM. Members enjoy additional benefits, such as free admission to certain screenings and DVD loans. Asociación Aeronáutica Andaluza Orión (Andalusian Aeronautical Association Orión). It was founded with the purpose of spreading, promoting, and educating in the field of aeronautical culture. It has carried out a wide range of activities, both public and private, including contests, conferences, trips, visits to museums, military bases, and airport facilities to bring aviation to the general public. ‘Di no a las Torres’ Platform. The “Di no a las torres” platform is a grassroots organization dedicated to preserving the natural beauty and cultural heritage of the Alpujarra and Lecrin Valley region. They vehemently oppose the installation of wind turbines, recognizing the detrimental impact it would have on the area’s charm and tranquility. Ecologistas en Acción – Costa de Granada.  Environmental organization dedicated to the preservation and protection of the natural environment along the Granada coast. They focus on raising awareness and advocating for policies that safeguard the region’s biodiversity.
