casa grande

The Salobreña Town Council will convene this Thursday to discuss several key issues, including the administrative steps to acquire the iconic “Casa Grande” in the town’s historic center. This prominent property, along with another located on Calle Brocal, represents a strategic investment aimed at enhancing the cultural and heritage value of the area.

The council will first decide on the reclassification of a municipal plot located in the Playa de Salobreña Partial Plan, covering an area of 1,310 square meters. This land will then be swapped for two properties on Calle Real (No. 21, Casa Grande) and Calle Brocal (No. 8), currently owned by the Parish of Nuestra Señora del Rosario.

According to urban planning regulations, the swapped land will be used to establish a religious center primarily dedicated to worship.

Mayor Javier Ortega explained that the “Casa Grande,” perched on the old town walls at the site of the historic Puerta de la Villa, will be repurposed for cultural and public service uses. The property on Calle Brocal, meanwhile, is set to become an open space featuring a scenic viewpoint overlooking the town’s historic and monumental landscape.

This initiative is part of a broader plan to revitalize the historic center of Salobreña, which includes drafting a Master Plan for the area. This planning tool is expected to streamline the approval process for construction permits and pave the way for future projects that will further develop this vital part of the town.

The council’s efforts reflect a commitment to preserving the town’s heritage while creating spaces that serve both residents and visitors, fostering a deeper connection with Salobreña’s cultural and historical identity.
